Texas' oldest craft brewery will soon be of legal drinking age. The venerable Houston institution will celebrate its 21st anniversary on Tuesday by hosting various events throughout the day. Anyone who shares a birthday with the brewery, June 9, 1994, will be given a lifetime brewery tour pass if they visit that day.
Martin City Brewing Company is trying to teach Anheuser-Busch, Inc. a lesson in copyright law, the hard way.
“While we have no particular issues with brewing at a macro scale, we do take issue with anyone or any corporation that tries to segment a part of the population which embodies the very nature of loving beer,” wrote Martin City co-owners Matt Moore and Chancie Adams in an emailed statement.
While not as elusive as some of their other offerings, Ballast Point's Black Marlin Porter is still a trophy catch.
The bold roasted coffee notes are tempered by sweet chocolate and caramel, but there's also a surprising amount of hoppiness. Rather than impaling you with a sword-like beak of humulus lupulus, Black Marlin's hops live symbiotically with the malt, like a clownfish in coral. The result is a grassy, tobacco-like flavor on the tail end of the sip which blends marvelously into the dark malt.
Eight-year-old bourbon barrels made the perfect environment for aging Theophan The Recluse, our Belgian-style Imperial Stout. The barrel's departed spirit left an enduring mark, infusing our stout with traces of bourbon, notes of vanilla and the rich character of wood.
A beer designed to be a showcase for our favorite Belgian yeast and beautiful European malts. These elements produce a clean, spicy citrus finish. Hell's Belle remains light and refreshing but still packs a 7% finish.
Big Boss Brewing Company was founded by Geoff Lamb in 2006 and shipped it first beers in the 2nd quarter of 2007. Local household favorites emerged in the form of Bad Penny Brown Ale and High Roller IPA. The company continues to expand their portfolio of barrel aged beers, and now canning new beers like Big Boss Lager while maintaining a focus on our home base of North Carolina!
