Flying Dog Brewery & University of Maryland Release 2020 Field Notes Pale Ale

Flying Dog Brewery in Baltimore, Maryland has announced a collaboration beer with the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The beer is called Field Notes Pale Ale. Full details are below.

Frederick, Md. – Flying Dog Brewery today announced the 2020 release of Field Notes Pale Ale, a beer created in partnership with the University of Maryland (UMD) College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Flying Dog and UMD have been working hand-in-hand for the past 5 years on the future of beer-centric agriculture in the State of Maryland.

Field Notes, brewed using hops grown at UMD’s Western Maryland Research and Education Center in Keedysville, MD, is a crisp and delicious 5.6% pale ale with fruity and citrus hop notes dominating both the aroma and flavor profile. The hops used - Lyon, Glacier and Southern Cross – were chosen after three rounds of blind sensory analysis on the hop varieties harvested by UMD this year.

“There’s no better way to evaluate hops than putting them in a beer, which is exactly why experimental projects like Field Notes are vital to our work with the University of Maryland,” said James Maravetz, VP of Marketing, Flying Dog. “There are no pilot or test brews for this beer, it is a one-time shot to see what notes shine through.”

That doesn’t even factor in other marketing and branding activities, ranging from lobbying to event sponsorships. A budget in the billions is an almost inconceivable number, especially to home brewers who want to get into the market but need to watch every dollar to grow their businesses.

East Brother Beer Co. Releases New Seasonal Belgian Tripel

East Brother Beer Co. Releases New Seasonal Belgian Tripel

East Brother Beer Co. Releases New Seasonal Belgian Tripel

East Brother Beer Co. in Richmond, California has announced the release of a seasonal brew called Belgian Tripel. Full details are below.

In a world that sometimes feels upside down, we’re finding comfort in honoring traditions while brewing great beer; grateful everyday for being in Richmond CA, and for our community of supporters. Tomorrow, East Brother Beer Company will release its seasonal Belgian Tripel, pulling from a tradition that began centuries ago in the Belgian abbeys.

So what exactly is a tripel? The short answer is a non-precise measurement of the alcohol content in this style of beer. Originally popularized by the Trappist monastery at Westmalle, the name tripel was typically used for the strongest beer in the cellar. Barrels were marked with Xs to signify strength, so three Xs designated the abbey’s tripel, or stronger alcohol content ale.

Honoring tradition, we brew an authentic Belgian Tripel at 8.6 ABV, using nearby Admiral Maltings' Admiral Pilsner malt, Clipper Oats, and Belgian Candi Sugar; a hops profile of English Kent Goldings and Styrian Aurora, plus Abbey Ale yeast.

White Labs Announces Better Haze Ahead IPA & 10° P Pilsner Now Available in Cans

White Labs in San Diego, California has announced that it is packaging and releasing two new beers: Better Haze IPA and 10 P Pilsner. Full details are below.

SAN DIEGO– The pioneering liquid yeast and fermentation company, White Labs, first started packaging its beer this past July and is now releasing two new beers Better Haze Ahead IPA and 10° P Pilsner.

Better Haze Ahead IPA showcases the perfect balance between yeast and hops. Hazy IPAs utilize yeast strains and new-world hops that produce aroma reminiscent of citrus and tropical fruit; the two ingredients harmonize into an easy-drinking beer. Brewed with WLP518 Opshaug Kviek ale yeast, the higher fermentation temperature promotes prominent tropical aromas and a dry finish. Brewed with WLP066 London Fog ale yeast, the strain creates a soft mouthfeel and citrus-like esters while accentuating the hop character.

10° P Pilsner is White Labs’ version of a Czech-style pale lager and is highly quaffable due to its dry, crisp finish. WLP802 Czech Budejovice lager yeast produces a dry beer that accentuates bitterness, while WLP830 German lager yeast creates a clean profile with subtle hop character alongside maltiness.
