The scores were averaged into a single score and notes compiled and summarized for publishing in magazine issues 1-14. These reviews have been republished here in this online format.

Hailing from the northern Franconian town of Bamberg, Aecht Schlenkerla truly is the quintessential rauchbier. Reissdorf Kölsch

Reissdorf Kölsch bier beer
Description

Very light color, slightly malty, fairly soft palate, dry finish. The Kölsch is fermented with an ale yeast, but matured at cooler "lagering" temperatures to produce an ale's fruity complexity with a lager's crispness.

Although not an overly popular style, more and more brewers are producing sweet stouts, and Left Hand Brewing has a winner on their hands. The judges praised this beer for its luscious, creamy, long lasting, beige head, as well as its deep, saturated brown color and brilliant clarity. In keeping... Read More

Hops initially leap out with an herbal, leafy character atop a bouquet of pine and citrus. Fruity tones include berry, melon and stone fruit with light accents of tropical fruit adding an interesting layer. Malt is a light grainy presence in the aroma, but is more notable in the flavor,...
