The Beer Connoisseur® review was conducted as a round table single blind review by our panel of expert judges. Four to six judges reviewed 8-14 beers per session and submitted their individual scores and notes. The scores were averaged into a single score and notes compiled and summarized for publishing in magazine issues 1-14. These reviews have been republished here in this online format.

A clean, well-crafted interpretation of the style, Bell’s Porter is a highly quaffable brew that is a great introduction to the world of porters. Its deep brown color and thick, creamy tan-colored head are spot on, and when held to the light, flashes of garnet dance along the edge of the glass.... Read More

The last in a distinguished string of Vertical Epic Ale releases, 12.12.12 is Stone Brewing’s homage to Belgium’s dark, powerful and spicy Bières de Noël. Overflowing with spicy notes of ginger, cinnamon, and clove, all punctuated by a dark pumpernickel bread maltiness, this brew imbues the... Read More

Left Hand’s flagship brew, Sawtooth Ale is another American riff on Extra Special Bitter, drawing depth and complexity from Pacific Northwest hops, Caramel and Munich malts. Lightly fruity, with teases of pear and brandied peaches, the aroma is dominated by citrusy, earthy, and grassy notes... Read More

French Broad’s strong Scotch ale, widely considered the brewery’s most full-bodied and flavorful offering, appears crystal clear with a deep red, garnet, light brown color and a mild, light tan head. This potent ale produces subtle aromas of malt, caramel, toffee, sorghum, molasses, plums,... Read More

Perched above the scenic Columbia River Gorge in Mt. Hood, Ore., Full Sail Brewing Company has been serving up classic brews to dedicated fans for a quarter century. A heavy hitter in the repertoire is the Black Gold Imperial Stout, a hugely chewy, bourbon-accented quaff. Not surprisingly, the... Read More
