Alaskan Brewing Adds Husky IPA as Year-Round Offering

Alaskan Brewing Adds Husky IPA as Year-Round Offering

Alaskan Brewing has brought back its Husky IPA as a year-round selection. For more, see below:

JUNEAU, Alaska (Sept. 1, 2017) – In response to the popularity and near-cult following it gained this spring as a seasonal beer, Husky IPA returns, joining the pack as Alaskan Brewing Company’s newest year-round beer. Husky IPA is a celebration of Mosaic hops and their unmistakable tropical and fruity aroma.

“Experimenting with Mosaic hops, we knew we wanted to brew an IPA with them, something that highlights the juicy Mosaic flavor, without being too overpowering or overly sweet,” said Tyler Lindquist, brewer at Alaskan Brewing. “These hops are celebrated for their complex, broad aroma, backed by clean bittering, which makes a big impression. This beer really stands out from the pack when you’re looking at the selection of IPAs available out there.”

Cape May Dedicates Portion of Labor Day Weekend Taproom Sales to Harvey Relief

Cape May Dedicates Portion of Labor Day Weekend Taproom Sales to Harvey Relief

Cape May is doing its part to support the victims of Hurricane Harvey. For all the details, see below:

Cape May Brewing Company has watched the images coming from Houston with heavy hearts. The devastation throughout southeast Texas has been grievous, and those in the path of the storm need all the help they can get.

“Cape May is no stranger to storms,” says co-owner and vice-president Bob Krill. “When we see images like the ones coming out of Houston, our hearts go out to these people.”

With that in mind, CMBC is planning to start their autumn Pint Night series with a weekend dedicated to Harvey relief. The brewery, located at 1288 Hornet Road in the Cape May Airport, will be donating $1 from every pint, flight, growler fill, and packaged beer sold through Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

“One of our Core Values is ‘Be a Good Neighbor’,” says co-owner and president Ryan Krill. “It doesn’t matter if that neighbor is across the street or halfway across the continent, CMBC will do everything it can to help.”

Product Review: Original Grain Watches | The Brewmaster Collection

Those who have brewed know that time is an essential element to the process. Brewers must keep a tight schedule, and thus, must be aware of time at all times.

The folks at Original Grain Watches (OG!) put two and two together and made a set of watches specifically designed with brewers in mind: The Brewmaster Collection

What makes these timepieces expressly beer-related? Every watch is made with wood from authentic reclaimed wooden barrels, using a "tempered carbonization process that extracts the utmost individuality from every ale-soaked artifact," according to Original Grain. In other words, they use heat from a flame to bring out the character of the wood, and accentuate the grain. Since these barrels once held alcohol, the wood in question is oak.

We were able to test out The Barrel, a top-selling model which comes in a 47 millimeter and 42mm face size, made with German oak. Specifically, we tried the 47mm.

The Barrel comes packaged in an attractive wooden box which can be used for storage and transportation, letting you know this is product of distinction.

Georgia Becomes Final State To Allow Direct Sales

Georgia Becomes Final State To Allow Direct Sales

The days of thinly-veiled tours and tastings as a means to enjoy beer from the source are over in Georgia.

On Friday, September 1, Georgia became the final state in the country to allow breweries to sell beer directly to consumers, putting the law into action after passing SB 85 in February. The new law, which applies to distilleries as well, has the potential to more than double the state's number of breweries, which currently sits around 50.

Brewers and consumers alike had long scoffed at the antiquated legislation, which was viewed as prohibitive to established and prospective breweries, leaving many entrepreneurs to build their businesses elsewhere.

Aside from the obvious perks of easier access to freshly packaged beer for the consumer, breweries expect revenue to increase via direct beer sales, and the state can expect an uptick in tourism and tax revenue. A win for all parties.

Breweries across the state are holding weekend celebrations with specialty brews and events, and breathing one long, collective sigh of relief.
