The Truth About Brewing Beer with Corn Syrup

AB InBev unveiled a commercial during Super Bowl LIII that focused on the differences between its Bud Light and MillerCoors's Miller Lite and Coors Light. The commercial started a controversy surrounding one of the ingredients in Miller Lite and Coors Light, corn syrup, that has now escalated to a point where MillerCoors is suing AB InBev in federal court, calling for a halt to the ads by claiming that they are false and misleading.

Beyond the lawsuit, MillerCoors also responded with an advertisement of its own that has been playing during the 2019 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. In it, actors on a simulated Bud Light commercial shoot opt to drink Miller Lite on-set (as opposed to Bud Light) in order to drink a beer with "more taste and half the carbs" of Bud Light:

D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. out of Pottsville, Pennsylvania has inked the Philadelphia Phillies opening day starter, Aaron Nola, to an endorsement deal.

This deal makes Nola  one of the first active MLB players to have a sponsorship from a brewery. Yuengling, the oldest brewery in America, has been a sponsor of the Phillies since 2017, but this is the first player sponsorship the brewery has undertaken.

POTTSVILLE, Pa. — D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., America’s Oldest Brewery, has announced its partnership with Philadelphia Phillies’ pitcher Aaron Nola. Nola is one of the first active, MLB players to have a partnership with a beer brand.

Yuengling has been a sponsor of the Philadelphia Phillies since 2017, and this new, individual, partnership with Nola further strengthens the relationship between America’s Oldest Brewery and the Phillies.

“Yuengling holds a special spot in my heart,” said Nola. “I had my first Yuengling Lager after being drafted by Philadelphia and I haven’t looked back. The fact that America’s Oldest Brewery is family owned and operated is important to me as I value family over everything. I love cracking open a cold Yuengling whether it’s a day fishing with my dad and brother back in Louisiana or after a big game.”

The newest year-round beer by Boulevard Brewing Co. in Kansas City, Missouri, Space Camper Cosmic IPA, has received a makeover due to the brewery's collaboration with 20th Century Fox.

Fox is releasing the fourth movie in the rebooted X-Men franchise, Dark Phoenix, on June 7, and Boulevard has partnered with the company to alter the packaging of Space Camper. Beyond that, the beer will be "will be the first beer ever to star as an AMC Movie Feature Drink at more than 300 AMC Theatres’ MacGuffins adult beverage concepts," according to a release from Boulevard.

March 26, 2019 – Kansas City – Boulevard Brewing Company today announced a partnership with 20th Century Fox and its highly anticipated film Dark Phoenix, marking the studio’s first collaboration with a craft brewer.Boulevard’s latest year-round beer, Space Camper Cosmic IPA, will get a new X-Men inspired look and blockbuster perks to celebrate the new release in theaters June 7.

Space Camper’s new limited-edition packaging features a Dark Phoenix icon floating over a prominent “X” with the beer’s orange, grey, white and black branding. In addition to the original six-packs of 12oz cans, Space Camper will be available in single-serve 16oz cans, primarily for venues and events.

Diebolt Brewing Co. Releases Two New Brews

Diebolt Brewing Co. in Denver, Colorado has announced the release of two new beers.

The first is a beer in honor of Major League Baseball's Opening Day and, more specifically, the first game of the season for the Colorado Rockies and their fan favorite outfielder Charlie Blackmon.

The beer is called Charlie Blackberry and is a fruited sour brewed with blackberries.

Reformation Brewery in Woodstock, Georgia has announced the release of its newest limited-edition brew.

Wilder Fruited Tart Ale is brewed with cranberry, blackberry, blackcurrant and ginger and clocks in at 7 percent ABV with a deep, dark purple color.

ATLANTA – Made for the “sweet beast in every beer lover” Reformation Brewery’s fruited tart ale, Wilder, is back in season for a limited time. Available on draft and in 16oz (4pks), from the brewery’s Woodstock taproom on Friday, March 29th, Wilder arrives at retailers in the coming weeks.

Described as “sweet, purple, and tart” and “dripping with wild amounts of cranberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, and ginger,” the dark purple, heavily fruited ale is 7% alcohol by volume and a result of ongoing research and development at Reformation’s Woodstock location.
